Peace & Love Film Festival is proud to present our 2nd edition 2013 international jury.

The winner of P&LFF 2012 Best First Film director Maja Milos (Serbia), ‘Dalecarlians’, ‘Nina Frisk’, ‘Fishy’ director writer Maria Blom (Sweden) and Dalarna based ‘Full Metal Jacket’ editor, P&LFF 2012 Master class, Martin Hunter (UK).

Three very competent representatives of the movie industry who will thoughtfully view the eight premiering feature films in competition this year and choose the winners in several categories including Best Film, Best Talent, Best First Film and Jury’s Prize.

P&LFF Meteor Trophy

377 million years ago in the Devonian period while Earth was still watery and muddy, volcanos erupting and fierce creatures developed legs and started walking on land, Dalarna was hit by huge meteorites. One impact crater, the largest known in Europe, created the lake Siljan which has nourished the region ever since with minerals, fish and other things from outer space.

The energy of the impact still remains and creates a unique vibe of people and their unique art and music, which is why Peace & Love Film Festival chose to use the meteor as our award trophy, to symbolize the encounter of different cultures, bringing films and filmmakers from around the world to recreate this impact every year, for Dalarna to live and thrive on this vibe of creativity.

P&LFF’s beautiful glass heart meteor trophy is designed by a team of students from Riksglasskolan in Orrefors. Terés Persson, Ingrid Klouman, Siri Jachlin, Rune Alexander Reisænen, Phillip Hickok and Gustaf Hagman added a heart in gold, silver and black colors in two different sizes of glass meteor to represent the Best Film, Best Talent, Best First Film, Jury’s Prize and Best Short Film.

In the name of our Glass Heart Meteor Award Trophy, we celebrate the meteor impact and the 7th Art from around the world. Designer Mattias Forsberg (from Borlänge based ad agency Humblebrag) says; ‘This year’s poster for Peace & Love Film Festival brings out the feeling of the Swedish midsummer night dream and highlights the beautiful trophies the winners get during the film festival. The graphic pattern captures the shape of the trophies and creates a bubbling curiosity and also symbolize the upcoming award winners of 2013 and future years.

Two films are so far confirmed: 50-year celebrating The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock and The Meaning of Life by Monty Python on its 30th anniversary

The Birds

– Many critics pick The Birds as ‘the last perfect Hitchcock film’ says swedish Hitchcockexpert Patrik Wikström, cowriter of the book The Alfred Hitchcock Presents Companion. The Birds is also one of the few Hitchcockmovies entirely without film music. It was replaced by silence and sound effects. The film is written by Daphne Du Maurier (story) and Evan Hunter (script) and takes place in North Carolina, where a rich society girl lures her boyfriend. The lovebirds stable life gets rocked when a flock of birds starts attacking the local inhabitants. Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren stars in The Birds and she won a Golden Globe for it as best new female actress.

The Meaning of Life

30 year celebrating The Meaning of Life, by and with Monty Python, was going to be the british comedysquads last joint feature film and was directed by Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam. It obviously also features the main members John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman. The film won Grand Prix de Jury in Cannes 1983 and was also nominated for the Palme d’Or at the same festival.

The film contains a number of loosely linked episodes from birth to death and everything in between. By mocking religion, philosophy and established norms of society, it upset people in many camps. The opening scene is highly actual – if not prophetic – in view of todays financial confidence crisis and many others have by time gained cult status, such as the restaurant scenes. ‘Every sperm is sacred’ received a prestigeous BAFTA nomination for best original song.

The Peace & Love Best Film Award goes to Cockpit by Mårten Klingberg. The director and producer is awarded for the intelligent ability of twisting the audience around the eternal question what comes first gender or humanity.

BEST TALENT – Marie Robertson

The Peace & Love Best Talent Award goes to Marie Robertson in Cockpit. The actress had the difficult task to keep up suspense with an ever changing partner. She mastered the challenge to bring the movie to an emotionally satisfying sexually diverse ending.

BEST FIRST FILM – Clip (Klipp)

The Peace & Love Best First Film Award goes to Clip by Maja Milos. This controversial movie shines a light on a confusing situation in Europe without inhibition and fear. The picture has the potential to reestablish peace & love in the Balkan region.

JURY PRIZE – Jonas Karlsson

The Peace & Love Jury Prize goes to Jonas Karlsson in Cockpit. The actor portrayed the sadness of a sexually confined personality and the happiness of opening up.

JURY PRIZE – Snowchild

The Peace & Love Jury Prize goes to Snowchild by Uta Arning. The director has the talent to marry the elements of sight and sound to elevate the audience to the realm of surrealism.

BEST SHORT FILM – Kiruna-Kigali

The Svenska Bio Anniversary Prize for best short film goes to Kiruna – Kigali by Goran Kapetanovic. Kiruna-Kigali was selected as one of the 15 competing finalists in the 2012 short films section as it tells, in a beautiful and well crafted way, a story about us humans in one of our most delicate situations. It shows how hard it can be to ask for help, to let others care for us when we feel vulnerable.

Directed by Walter Salle’s (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) the shooting started in 2010 and today May 23, it finally world premiers at the Cannes festival. We are thrilled and honored to present the Swedish premiere at Peace & Love Film Festival in Borlänge, Dalarna on June 25 as the Centerpiece of the festival.

30 years ago, May 23 1982, also here in Cannes, the audience saw the world premiere of another cult movie – “The Wall“. We are celebrating it’s anniversary by presenting the film as our first Midnight screening at Sveatorget in Borlänge, Dalarna, on Midsummer Day June 23. Steven Spielberg apparently dropped the comment “- What the fuck was that?” after attending the premiere viewing of this emblematic musical thriller.

Ending our first edition of the Peace & Love Film Festival on June 27, our fifth and last Midnight screening will be “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial“, a film transfused with peace and love, produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, and also celebrating it’s 30^th theatrical release anniversary.

Our entire film festival program with over 40 films will be made official Friday, June 2^nd.
